Kimono DevID by darue Kimono DevID by darue

Alright, I give up.
There's no way that I'm going to be able to do a background to the same amount of detail that I used in the character.

And so, I'll just leave it as this for the time being. I'll probably finish the background on another occasion, but I've been working on this for a week with many distractions, and I just want to post something now. T.T

Oh, and if you didn't gather it from the name, I'll be using this as my ID after a little exposure in the anime/manga category.

You do know that an ID shouldn't be broader than 400 pixels? :eyes: [link]

I don't mind having a bit cut off.
Gives some leeway for those people with 1080i screens or something large like that.

I really like the subtle blue patterns in her kimono. The shadow is a nice touch as well.

This looks really good! You should definately do a tutorial on your art style!

The light source and the shadow are amazing. I must say, I am very impressed with her hands, too.

Though, I can't see anything 'wrong' with this one. The hair might have gotten a little out of control for my taste, but that's just your style. :) It still looks really good.

It's very clean, and the colours are nice, but there are some odd issues; The face feels flat, and most everything in the picture looks pretty untextured, kind of plastic. Also, I can't tell what the hair's doing; It looks like tattered fabric pretty much everywhere except the bangs, which look like metal.

Keep drawing.

Yeah, what I did was copied a merged layer of everything, surface blurred it, and set it to hard light, then added bloom with a black and white adjustment layer.

It helped to make the picture more vivid, but I ended up erasing many of the small details here and there, as you pointed out, giving it that plastic feel. I'll probably do some retouches to fix these later on, when I feel motivated enough to do a background. :3

Thanks for the critique. ^_^

I love the softness in your style,
it really makes your art pleasant to look at.
I think the dark portion in the hair
acts as a vacuum since the rest of your palette
is full of soft colors.
Also, the leg she's standing on is too stiff
for her to be putting her weight on it.

The hand on the right looks really delicate;
the art looks simple but if you look
closely, you can see the little details you
put a lot of work in to!:D

I saw "Advanced Critique Encouraged" up
above, so let me know if I ramble or
am too harsh!

Hehe, I like harsh. :D

Though, the darkness of the hair to the right of the picture is because of my post-processing, something I'm not completely satisfied with here. Also, her leg is stiff because she's supposed to be skipping forward, and she's about to land... I tried to fix this in the edit, but the shadow got messed up somehow. :/
